Fred Dagg Live 1976.

A Bit Of A Dagg

In 1976, Fred Dagg had risen to prominence as a star. During that winter, John Clarke, the mastermind behind Dagg, teamed up with the renowned Big Dagg Band and John Hore (also known as John Grenell) for an immensely successful 52-date tour named ‘A Bit Of A Dagg’.

A special half-hour TV presentation, screened in 1977, was recorded upon their return from touring the South Island. It features a delightful blend of Dagg’s witty remarks, engaging monologues, and catchy musical performances. Clarke showcases his versatility by channeling Elvis, delivering yodels, and concluding with an electrifying rendition of ‘The Gumboot Song’. Hore contributes a rustic charm with renditions of John Denver classics. The Big Dagg Band demonstrates their skillful prowess, notably in a captivating drum solo where Bernadette and John ‘The General’ Rangi trade places, stealing the spotlight.

This clip showcases the genius of John Clarke when he steps into the role of racing commentator for the ‘Hack-Handicap For Fleas’.
